this is actually not the original masjid built by Malik ibn Habib. the orinal one was washed away by the sea but this new one houses some historical relics which even the local are not aware. followers of Islam first came to kerala in this Indian subcontinent and Jonakapuram is the second place they set foot on.

The dream of 90s to construct a marriage hall (in the place of present pond in a dilapilated condition)shattered, but what made the temple and the thousand GSBS OF THIS HISTORIC PLACE to convert the pond into a dumping ground especially when the same is just in front of the temple? The 1000 local GSB and another 1000 non resident GSBs of kollam can't do anything about it, at least physically though not financially(all are reportedly middle class familymembers)? What about the active youthwing/gramasabhas,Bank employees retired during the last one decade, who were once the pillars of GSB community? Shall we to destroy the heritage of atleat 150 years, luckily still held privately by the community??
Whether any attempt was made to bring close the Non-resident GSBs(I mean the kollam originated GSBs but currently living outside kollam, outside kerala or outside india) seeking their involvement,to protent our heritage??????

Kollam Clock Tower is a major landmark in the town of Kollam and it stands high in the heart of the town. This tower has become a symbol of Kollam District, a sort of non-official emblem.
The quadrangular tower was built by the natives in honor of Unichakam Veedu K G Parameshwaran Pillai, the former chairman of Kollam Municipality from 1932 to 1948. The construction was started in 1941 and completed in 1944. Built with brick and white cement, it has the distinction of being the first clock tower of the erstwhile Travancore. The four big clocks placed on the sides were brought from Kolkata and its origin can be traced to Britain.
The clock tower is situated about 71 km from Thiruvananthapuram, beside the National Highway 47, at Chinnakada, close to the Kollam Junction Railway Station and Puthiyakavu Temple.
Some of the other nearby attractions are Thangasseri Beach, Thangassery Light House and Thirumullavaram Beach.

Chinnakada is a major commercial area in Kollam city. Many commercial establishments and shops are located in this part of the city. Kadappakada is 2 km south-east.
Bishop Jerome Nagar Shopping Center, the biggest shopping complex in the city, is located near Chinnakada. Kollam Clock Tower, Kollam Head Post Office, and the private bus stand are the other major land marks.
Kollam Adventure Park (2 km), on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake, and Kollam Beach are interesting tourist locales nearby.
Chinnakada is less than 50 m from Kollam Junction Railway Station and is around 500 m from KSRTC Bus Station.

A commercial area of Kollam, Kilikollur is located a few kilometers north-east of Kollam Junction Railway Station. Kilikollur was once the camp of the Royal Army. Soldiers of the camp killed many birds and hence the place got the name Kilikollur.
Covering an area of about 11 sq km, Kilikollur houses several cashew factories, saw mills, match factories and tile manufacturing centers. Handlooms and coir making are the small scale industries of this place. TKM Engineering College, TKM Arts College and Chandanathope Industrial Training Centre are the major landmarks of this place.
Kilikollur Railway Station is on the Kollam-Kottarakara rail route.
